- HEMP is helping me to help my health. I was a fit and healthy woman who was at college studying natural therapies. I was in the final year of a Bachelor of health science and looking forward to finishing. I was feeling a little unwell and had the flu and thought a good dose of anti-histamine and positive attitude would get me out of the house and off to school.
That evening I decided to work on an assignment at my trusty computer. I started to profusely sweat and feel light headed. I intuitively reached for my carotid artery on the neck region and took my pulse to find that I had an incredibly erratic, fast pulse. I immediately called the ambulance and ended up in the emergency department of the local hospital. That, as they say is her story.
The doctors revealed my heart had been attacked by a virus and that I contracted a life threatening ventricular arrhythmia. The doctors told me that I was lucky (the one eyed, three legged dog). Two heart procedures later, and a plethora of medication, my health deteriorated to nothing short of near bed ridden. One medication destroyed my thyroid, and opened up a whole new problem with my endocrine system. My body fought itself as I fought my body. A friend advised that I should find a doctor who specialises in the more natural approach to medicine. I thankfully found a wonderful doctor who listened and encouraged research on the internet!
I had numerous tests which revealed that I had developed chronic fatigue hypothyroidism, multiple chemical sensitivities, irritable bowel, and allergic cirrhosis. Systematically I excluded all the food and chemicals that were contributing to the problem, yet I still felt so incredibly weak and tired. Not much food could be kept down, and the rest went out the other end.
I was profoundly malnourished and I needed to find something to fill the nutritional gaps. I think I popped just about every vitamin pill and wondered if this were doing more harm than good. My digestive system was having problems absorbing nutrients in spite of everything I was trying to do, as blood tests confirmed.
In sheer desperation I searched the internet for clues. I discovered a site that promoted industrial food grade hemp products and read all that I could on the subject. Hemp had such an impressive nutritional assay and I just had to try some! All of the other vegetarian protein powders that I had tried were hard to digest causing great amounts of gastric discomfort. I tentatively took a teaspoon of the hemp powder and within a short period of time I felt this increase in energy and a sense of wellbeing, something that was a very welcome change.
Over the months I gradually increased the hemp powder to 2 tablespoons per day, generally in a green smoothie or sprinkled over fruit. I decided to include pure hemp oil to my regime, increasing slowly to one tablespoon a day. I find the oil amazing, because it felt so gentle on my system, (unlike other omega supplements) did not make me feel nauseous or cause bowel intolerance. With each increase over the many months, I noticed subtle but significant positive changes to my health. I was getting better!
I have more energy, my skin is clear and glowing, hair is thick and healthy I have less pain in my body, my eyes sparkle, my heart arrhythmia has decreased 70%, and my mental acuity is excellent. I sleep better, I laugh more, I am starting to reclaim my life. My blood tests are normal and I am told my cholesterol levels are like a 25 year old. I am 50.
My quest for wellness has been a difficult process but I have learned a great deal. I have totally changed my eating habits to a raw vegan lifestyle, and include wonderful foods such as raw hemp flour, hemp protein and hemp oil to invigorate and nourish my body. Am I 100% well yet? No. Many of my health concerns are irreversible but I am able to control them significantly with my current lifestyle. My journey has taken 10 long years.
Food grade industrial Hemp should be freely available to all people, for to deny access to this marvellous plant is one of the great tragedies in life.
