Here in Australia we are assured of the highest level of standards to ensure a clean, pure industrial hemp crop. Due to stringent regulations there is virtually no margin for error, ensuring the end consumer that the product is the best possible.
Planet Hemp Products cold presses its Australian grown hemp seed at a certified Organic Facility ACO#46P and mills the hemp seed meal into flour and protein powder. The hemp seed oil is then filtered, nitrogen flushed and sealed in opaque glass before cold-storing at -18 Celcius.
For many imported oils this cannot be guaranteed. In China for example, so-called 'cold-pressed' oils have found to be rancid due to cold pressing at over 80 degrees Celcius and/or poor storage. Rancid hemp oil can be very damaging to the body and is toxic due to the high amounts of free-fatty acids.
Oils imported from the Northern Hemisphere have to cross the equator on a container. It is important that the hemp oil is shipped in a controlled environment to minimise exposure to equatorial tropical heat temperatures. Unless properly pressed, stored and shipped, the fragile qualities that make hemp oil a superior product will be destroyed. We take every precaution to ensure our hemp seed products are of the freshest quality possible. Yes, hemp oil is legally used in Australia, and throughout the world. However, in Australia the use of hemp oil is limited to uses that do not involve it being consumed by humans. It is legal to consume hemp oil in New Zealand, United Kingdom, USA and virtually every Western country in the world.
Hemp oil is seen as a very nutritious plant based oil offering nature's perfect balance of omega-3 and omega-6 Essential Fatty Acids. It is a very pleasant tasting oil.
Planet Hemp Products contracts hemp seeds to be grown throughout Australia under license. The hemp seeds are pressed in Queensland to produce a food quality oil that is sold throughout Ausralia. We do not currently export this oil.
Although hemp oil cannot be used internally (only in Australia), many Australians enjoy the nutritional benefits of hemp oil as a base for their quality cosmetic products. Hemp Foods Australia sells bulk hemp oil to many body care manufacturers throughout Australia.
As the nutritional benefits of hemp oil can be absorbed through the skin, health food stores sell pure hemp oil as a body moisturiser. This food quality hemp oil is the finest skin conditioner.
Hemp oil can also be fed to your animals. See Hemp Seed for benefits to your non-human friends.
What is Hemp Seed Meal/Cake/Flour?Hemp Cake is the by-product of pressing hemp seeds to produce hemp oil. It is a 100% natural plant product suitable for human consumption where legal. Just as there are many varieties of apples, oranges or mangoes- there are many varieties of wheat, corn and hemp. The industrial hemp grown in Australia contains very little (approx. less than 0.3%) of the THC (the drug ingredient) as compared to 5%+ in drug varieties. This insures that industrial hemp, although it grows and looks the same- cannot get you 'high', even if you tried to smoke a field of it.
The hemp seed (and therefore oil) is the only part of the plant that does not produce THC (the drug). However, on harvesting high THC crops (not applicable in Australia, UK, USA) such as those found in China- the THC pollen from the leaves, flowers and stem can contaminate the seed, thus resulting in a THC effect from the seed and oil produced.
