Protein is only produced by the plant kingdom. Proteins found in meats are secondary proteins and not as easily digested and metabolised as plant proteins.
Hemp seed is a nutritional source of complete proteins as it contains all known amino acids in beneficial amounts.
Proteins found in hemp seed are in the form of edestin and albumin. Edestin is only found in Hemp seed and is very easily digested and metabolised without the side effects often associated with Soy or Whey proteins.
Many protein supplements are sold today that are concentrated to 50-90% pure protein. Whilst the nutritional profile of some of these products looks great on paper, the processing methods used may be of concern for the discerning life form.
These products have not been designed to improve nutrition, rather they are produced and marketed based on increased shelf-life or stability i.e. they are inactive. To achieve this, the essential fats are removed from the seed using hexane or alcohol and the fibre is removed to increase the % of protein.
The trade-off for a longer shelf-life is decreased digestibility and decreased nutritional benefit. Many of the natural enzymes, vitamins and minerals that were present in the whole seed or nut have been removed, thereby increasing the work and energy required by your body for digestion.
