SEPTEMBER 18, 2007 NEWSLETTER ( 2007-09-18 05:29:38 )

Greetings again from all at Happy Planet!

We won! We won!

We won the Gold Cup for “Finest Feast Award” in the inaugural Paws & Claws Magazine Awards.

Firstly, a big thank you to customers who voted for our Dr Skoobies Snax. We are very proud of this achievement and the recognition for our healthy, natural, hemp oil-based dog food.

And next month we have new flavours arriving – including carob, so, check out the website for details next month.

Customers keep buying the food and telling us how it has helped their dog. I received a testimonial from a customer last week, who said “I"m the owner of an 11 year old boxer, who was suffering from debilitating arthritis in the hind leg. After one week of using Dr Skoobie Snax biscuits, her problem no longer exists and restored the lustre to her coat. Instead of walking she now runs everywhere. Thank you Happy Planet. Jenny, Gold Coast.”

Thank you Jenny. We love to receive feedback and suggestions, and we love to help people and the planet. By buying our hemp products, you are helping the planet by increasing the demand for industrial hemp farmers to grow a clean, renewable resource. Extremely important at this time of climate change and water shortage. Industrial hemp is very friendly to the environment as it needs little water, no chemicals, takes only 100-120 days to grow and the plants fallen leaves provide a nutritious compost for the soil.

It is a crime that this humble looking plant, providing so much was so long prevented and forgotten.

But, the Hemp Renaissance is now in full swing overseas – products produced from hemp include – clothing, food (milk, food bars, burgers, protein powder, oil, beer, butter, flour plus more), paper, cardboard, building materials, canvas, skin care, soap, bio-fuel, plastic, stone and much more. And it is time Australia caught up with the overseas hemp industry.

In 1934, Henry Ford said “why use up the forests which were centuries in the making, the mines which required ages to lay down, if we can get the equivalent of forest and mineral products in the annual growth of the hemp fields?” Why indeed.

Quality paints and varnishes were made from hemp seed oil until 1937. 58,000 tons of hemp seeds were used in America for paint products in 1935 alone.

One acre of hemp can produce as much usable fibre as 4 acres of trees or two acres of cotton.

Indeed, this plant is a gift to humans to produce all that they need, cheaply and quickly, including housing. Unfortunately, natural, non-toxic building materials and housing design have too long been forgotten from the past. Home builders used whatever plant fibre and mineral that was nearby, including hemp, straw, flax, clay. Homes made from these materials were warm, self-insulating, damp, mold and insect repellent. It makes sense to go back to using natural materials grown from the earth.

More exciting news is that a well-known body-builder has declared Happy Planet’s protein powder the best on the planet and is placing large orders to supply the sport, fitness and body building industry overseas. Hemp Protein powder is indeed a nectar from the Gods containing Omegas 3,6,9 and all necessary nutrients for the human body.

It can be mixed in a smoothie, juice, yoghurt or whatever takes your fancy. I mix my protein powder with ½ glass room temperature filtered water, then add 2 teaspoons aloe vera juice, 2 teaspoons agave syrup and then top with fresh juice. Delicious and healthy!

This month’s Recipe – Banana Bread with hemp flour and hazelnut agave syrup

½ cup hemp flour                                 1/3 cup vegie oil

2 cups plain flour                                ½ cup hazelnut agave syrup

1 tsp baking soda                                2-3 mashed bananas

1 tsp salt                                            2 eggs

                                                          1/3 cup milk

Mix dry ingredients in one bowl.          Mix wet ingredients in one bowl.

Combine dry and wet ingredients, add chopped nuts (optional).

Happy minds – happy bodies – happy planet
